This is my esxi 5.1 white box build, I put this together in January to work through the VCP5 blueprint and it has served me very well. All components are100% compatible with ESXi 5.5.
I boot from a 4GB USB disk (Use this guide: http://www.vm-help.com/esx40i/ESXi_USB_install.php)
There are 2x 120GB OCZ AGILITY 3 SATA III 2.5″ SSD’s for VM’s and 1x 250GB SATA disk for iso images
Hi Joe!
Nice to see you have your own blog now
One kind question
I see you talk vmware-language now 🙂
Have you abandoned XenServer?
I’m thinking about making ti work pacemaker + corosync on Citrix XenServer
This to make them paired with active/passive XenServer + DRBD
Do you have an opinion about this idea? Have you ever thought about this?
Thank you for any reply
Robert
I am not VMWare expert but build one box year ago with help of NCIX but it really does not work at all with 5.1. I always see purple screen with message about “NO CPU heart” beat.
Here is my WHITEBOX specs and if you can suggest anything to fix this issue. I really don’t want to move to HYPER-V 🙂

Hi George, Here is someone running a similar setup with Esxi 5.0 http://plain-virt.blogspot.ie/2011/10/esxi-50-white-box.html
Have you tried 5.5 – you might get lucky!
